Die erste Technikwissenschaft: Naviers Grundlegung der Baustatik vor 200 Jahren

Mit der Zusammenfassung des ersten Teils seiner an der Pariser École des Ponts et Chaussées gehaltenen Vorlesungen, dem „Résumé des Leçons“, publizierte Claude‐Louis‐Marie‐Henri Navier (1785–1836) vor 200 Jahren die erste umfassende Darstellung einer technikwissenschaftlichen Grundlagendisziplin: der Baustatik. Herzstück dieser ersten Monografie über Baustatik bildet die Technische Biegetheorie, welche im letzten Dezennium der Konstituierungsphase der Baustatik (1825–1850) als der ersten Phase ihrer Disziplinbildungsperiode (1825–1900) und im ersten Dezennium der Etablierungsphase der Baustatik (1850–1875) im Mittelpunkt stehen sollte. In der Baustatik Naviers spiegelt sich erstmals das Selbstverständnis dieser technikwissenschaftlichen Grundlagendisziplin im Allgemeinen und der Technischen Biegetheorie im Besonderen wider. Im Folgenden wird diese Programmschrift der Baustatik vor dem Hintergrund der Vita Naviers untersucht.

With the summary of the first part of his lectures delivered at the École des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris, the Résumé des Leçons, Claude‐Louis‐Marie‐Henri Navier (1785–1836) published, 200 years ago, the first comprehensive exposition of a discipline in engineering science: the theory of structures. At the heart of this first monograph on the theory of structures lies the practical bending theory, which was to take centre stage during the final decade of the constitution phase of the theory of structures (1825–1850) – the first phase of its discipline‐formation period (1825–1900) – and during the first decade of the establishment phase of the theory of structures (1850–1875). Navier's theory of structures reflects, for the first time, the self‐conception of this fundamental discipline of engineering science in general and of the practical bending theory in particular. In the following, this treatise on the theory of structures is examined in the context of Navier's life and work.
