Building Information Modeling (BIM) spielt auch im Stahlbau eine immer größere Rolle und wird in allen Ebenen der Planung und Ausführung sowohl interessiert als auch kritisch diskutiert. Der Stahlbau kann dabei aufgrund seiner langen Erfahrung in der 3D-Planung auf etablierte Prozesse im Bereich des Datenaustauschs zurückgreifen. BIM bietet die Chance, diese weiterzuentwickeln und auszubauen. Der Artikel beleuchtet anhand ausgewählter Einsatzbereiche und Praxisbeispiele den aktuellen Status der modellbasierten Planung und Ausführung. Ziel ist dabei, BIM im Kontext etablierter Arbeitsweisen des Stahlbaus zu betrachten, Mut zu machen, die Möglichkeiten von BIM schon heute auszuschöpfen, und das Potenzial für die Zukunft aufzuzeigen.

BIM in steel construction: established workflows and new opportunities
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is playing a more and more important role in steel construction, from planning to execution. The topic is both viewed with interest as well as critically discussed. Based on its long tradition in 3D planning, the steel industry can benefit from well-established processes for data exchange. BIM brings new opportunities to extend and develop these further. The article analyses the current status of model-based planning and execution, highlighting a number of selected areas and practical examples. The aim is to evaluate BIM in light of current workflows in steel construction, to encourage companies to utilize the tools and methods already available and highlight the potential of BIM for the future.
