Das Land Venezuela sieht sich in den letzten Jahren mit schweren wirtschaftlichen und politischen Problemen konfrontiert. Stetige Preissteigerungen, Hyperinflation und entstehende Versorgungsengpässe sind die sichtbarsten Symptome einer Krise, die sich insbesondere mit dem Verfall der Erdölpreise seit 2014 verschärft hat. Auch Defizite im Staatshaushalt, eine zunehmende Staatsverschuldung und Rezession sind Ausdruck der wirtschaftlichen Herausforderungen.
Dabei verfügt Venezuela über die größte Menge an Ölreserven auf der Welt, ist auch eines der Länder mit den größten Erdgasreserven, reich an Bauxit, Mangan, Gold, Eisenerzen und wertvollen Mineralien wie beispielsweise Coltan.
Noch vor 10 Jahren florierte die Baubranche in Venezuela, Staudämme wurden gebaut, die Metro in Caracas erweitert sowie das Straßen- und Eisenbahnnetz im Landesinneren ausgebaut. Dabei entstanden auch große Brückenbauprojekte wie die Puente Nigale in Maracaibo sowie die beiden Brücken über den Orinoco, die Puente Orinoquia in Ciudad Guayana und die dritte Brücke über den Orinoco im Südosten des Landes, die Puente Mercosur, denen wegen ihrer außergewöhnlichen Größe eine besondere Bedeutung zukommt.
Der Beitrag beschreibt diese dritte Brücke über den Orinoco, die sich momentan noch im Bau befindet bei einem Fertigstellungsgrad von ca. 75 % [1].

Venezuela has been facing major economic and political problems in the last years. The continuous rise of prices, hyperinflation and the resulting supply deficiencies are the most visible symptoms of the crisis, which had been intensified especially due to the decreasing prices for crude oil since 2014. The deficiencies in the national budget, an increasing national debt and the recession are also a signal for the economical challenge.
At the same time, Venezuela has the biggest reserves of crude oil in the world, is also one of the country with the biggest reserves of natural gas, has an amount of sources of bauxite, manganese, gold, iron ore, and valuable minerals such as coltan. Ten years ago, the building industry was still flourishing, hydro-electric dams were built, the metro of Caracas was extended and the network of road and rail in the urban areas was expanded. In the course of this development, several important bridge projects were realized such as the Puente Nigale in Maracaibo as well as the bridges over the Orinoco River, the Puente Orinoquia in Ciudad Guayana and the third Bridge over the Orinoco in the Southeast of the country, that due to its size have a special importance.
The article describes the Third Bridge over the Orinoco, which is still under construction with a progress of around 75 %.
