The new Austrian tunnelling method has proved greatly successful in the past fifty years thanks to its flexibility and cost-effectiveness. The application of the NATM demands a high degree of technical and social competence from all project parties and is based on a carefully developed culture. The article summarises the requirements for the successful implementation of NATM projects, discusses some current wrong turnings and explains modern ideas in the fields of cooperative project development, tender models and value engineering. Die Neue Österreichische Tunnelbauweise hat sich in den vergangenen fünf Jahrzehnten dank ihrer Flexibilität und Wirtschaftlichkeit in höchstem Maße bewährt. Die Anwendung der NÖT erfordert von allen Projektbeteiligten ein hohes Maß an technischer und sozialer Kompetenz und beruht auf einer sorgsam aufgebauten Kultur. Der Beitrag fasst die Voraussetzungen für die erfolgreiche Umsetzung von NÖT-Projekten zusammen, zeigt aktuelle Fehlentwicklungen auf und erläutert aktuelle Ansätze in den Bereichen kooperative Projektabwicklung, Vergabemodelle und Value Engineering.
