Ein großer Teil der CO‐Emissionen geht auf die Baubranche zurück. Das größte Potenzial, um diese zu reduzieren, besteht in den frühen Planungsphasen. Die Grundlage für ökologische Optimierungen sind Ökobilanzen (Life Cycle Assessment). Dennoch werden sie v. a. im Infrastrukturbau nur selten erstellt, weil sie mit einem hohen Aufwand verbunden sind und bestehende BIM‐LCA‐Tools eine Vielzahl an BIM‐Modellen nicht verarbeiten können. Nun hat ein Team bei AFRY Deutschland die Methode BIMetrix entwickelt, mit der sich LCAs auch für Hunderte von BIM‐Modellen automatisiert erstellen und dreidimensional visualisieren lassen. Sie wurde bereits erfolgreich in einem realen Pilotprojekt der Deutschen Bahn eingesetzt und validiert. Die Methode eröffnet allen Bereichen des Bauwesens die Möglichkeit, CO‐Emissionen gezielt zu reduzieren.

A large proportion of CO emissions are caused by the construction industry. The greatest potential for reducing these emissions lies in the early planning phases. Life cycle assessments (LCAs) are the basis for ecological optimization. Nevertheless, they are rarely used, especially in infrastructure construction, because they require a lot of effort and existing BIM‐LCA tools cannot process large numbers of BIM models. Now, a team at AFRY Germany has developed the BIMetrix method, with which LCAs can be automatically created and three‐dimensionally visualized even for hundreds of BIM models. It has already been successfully used and validated in a real pilot project of Deutsche Bahn. The method opens up the possibility of reducing CO emissions in a systematic manner for all areas of the construction industry.
