Adaptive Tragwerke sind mit Verschiebungen und Kräfteumlagerungen in der Zeit verbunden. Als Ziel der Adaption bzw. der Kräfteumlagerungen wird in der einschlägigen Literatur die gleichmäßige volle Ausnutzung des Materials definiert. Die gleichmäßige volle Ausnutzung des Konstruktionsmaterials wird seinerseits mit der Effektivität des Leichtbaus verknüpft.
Im vorliegenden Aufsatz analysiert der Autor zunächst aus Sicht der Baustatik den Adaptivitätsmechanismus anhand des aus der Literatur bekannten selbstanpassenden Tragwerks: Stuttgarter Träger. Durch den Adaptivitätsmechanismus, bestehend aus Sensoren und Aktuatoren, manipulieren die Erfinder des Stuttgarter Trägers die inneren und äußeren Kräfte anhand eines Modells (Computermodell und gebautes Miniaturmodell).
Im Anschluss werden Grundlagen der linearen Theorie der Kräfteumlagerungen in Tragwerkssystemen aufgezeigt. In diesen Systemen wird die Steuerung der Kräfteumlagerungen dem Material selbst überlassen.

Adaptive structures
Adaptive structures are associated with shifts and force redistributions over time. Relevant literature defines the even full utilization of material as the aim of the adaptation respectively the force redistributions. The even full utilization of construction material itself is linked to the effectiveness of lightweight construction.
In the present essay, the author first analyses the adaptive mechanism from a statics viewpoint using the self-adapting and from literature known supporting structure Stuttgarter Träger. Through the adaptive mechanism, consisting of sensors and actuators, the inventors of the Stuttgarter Träger manipulate the internal and external forces based on a model (computer model and built miniature model).
Subsequently, fundamentals of the linear theory of force redistribution in structural systems are shown. In these systems the control of force redistributions is left to the material itself.
