Müthers Hyparschale in Magdeburg hat auch nach über 50 Jahren eine Zukunft. Ihrer Errichtung im Jahr 1969 folgten zunächst Jahrzehnte vielfältiger Nutzung als Sport- und Veranstaltungsstätte. Danach geriet sie in Vergessenheit und 1997 erfolgte aus Sicherheitsgründen die bauaufsichtliche Sperrung. Durch unterlassene Instandhaltung und Vandalismus war sie nun dem Verfall preisgegeben. Erst Anfang der 2000er Jahre entdeckte man die baugeschichtliche Bedeutung dieses Solitärs neu und brachte den Willen zur Rettung auf. Müthers hypar shell in Magdeburg still has a future after more than 50 years. It was built in 1969 followed by decades of diverse use as a sport and event centre. Then it fell into oblivion and in 1997 it was closed by the building authorities for safety reasons. Due to neglected maintenance and vandalism, it was now left to decay. At the beginning of the 2000s the architectural significance of this solitaire was rediscovered and the will to save it was mustered. The article describes the path to the restoration of the hypar shell and which innovations in structural engineering were instrumental in this process.
